My name is Amanda Harden and I am a Past Honored Queen of Bethel #22 of Elkridge, Maryland. I have been a member of Job's Daughters for 7 years now. While Job's Daughters has been in my family for many generations, I never got the full experience until I was old enough to actually join and become entirely active in my bethel.
In life, you will get out of it what you put into it; the same applies to Job's Daughters. After I became more involved with Job's Daughters, through various activities, I met many different girls in the Order. They have become not just my best friends, but more so, my sisters. Now, I can't get enough of the girls, the “moms” and “dads”, or the organization. To say that my Jobie family is one of my biggest supports is an understatement. Job's Daughters and the people associated have helped mold me into the young woman I am today.
During my year as Miss Congeniality, I plan to focus on promoting our Order by encouraging and increasing communication. Job's Daughters is an organization that thrives on communication, and we must act efficiently and effectively in order to grow and prosper. To go along with my goal and plans for this year, I have chosen the flamingo as my mascot. Not only do they stand out from any other bird in the world, but they also have a constant need for communication and interaction with each other. That directly relates to Job's Daughters - our Organization would crumble without the love, support, and communication of each other, just like the flamingo's existence. Not to mention, flamingos are just so cute!
As Miss Congeniality, my charity for the year is the H.I.K.E. Fund, which stands for Hearing Impaired Kids Endowment Fund. It provides hearing devices for children whose family can't afford them. This charity is especially important to me, being a H.I.K.E. hearing aid recipient myself, many years ago. I will be raising money through various fundraisers, or if you would like to make a personal donation, feel free to contact me.
My motto for this year is “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” This statement is beyond true and I see that first hand through Job's Daughters. But, with that fun come responsibility. We need to remember that our job is to grow membership so we can keep the fun going. I plan on doing just that- increasing our membership and having as much fun as possible, all at the same time! I'm so excited to see all that this year will bring, and I can't wait to see everyone around the state!
Jobie Love,
